Thanks Max,
I have figured out now that it is commctrls that causes it. Components
that dont drag in commctrls work.
Dratted automatic windows updates.

Has anyone come across it or aware what it might be ?
I suggest either debugging his Delphi 2007 inside of another Delphi 2007
session, catching the exception and looking to see the stack trace to
find the offending component or library routine, or installing one of
the IDE stack trace components (e.g. madShi's) and using that to get a
trace of the problem.
It's the way I have successfully debugged and removed problems like this
for years.
Cheers, Max.
