Pure guess: Change session colour set from 16 to 256 or higher. Or LCD grey scale or colour mapping is an issue. clBtnFace is mapped wrongly.
On VNC I lose labels with colour limitations and maybe this is your problem. Choose clblack and see if they 'appear'.
