How compatible is Delphi .Net with Delphi Win32 code (Delphi 6 to be specific)?
The application I work on is a large ongoing project that has been in development since Delphi 2 (possible even Delphin 1). I don't really know much about it, but I assume that the compatibility is such that we could upgrade our internal code without a huge problem, but third party components could be an issue! We use quite a few Developer Express components and there is an Express Quantun Grid for Delphi .Net, but other things such as the Express Layout Control, the Express Printing System, etc. We also use many others such at Toolbar 2000 and GLScene. The next thing is .Net compatibility. Lets assume we use Delphi .Net and develop some nice stuff. For whatever reason Borland or Delphi dies (Not saying it will happen. Just Hypothetical. I don't want to get into this now.). So we have some Delphi .Net code which compiles to .Net 1, 2 or whatever. How likely is it that we could continue to use those assemblies with C# in say .Net 4.
