It also may be better to set the lilypond path via the denemo.sh script.
There is a variable called LILYPOND_PATH (or something close to that) . I
believe you can use the official lilypond by setting it to wherever you
placed it. It would be inside the Lilypond.app as well. Something like
LilyPond.app/Contents/Resources/usr/bin/lilypond or lilypond-bin or
something like that.
