I've found a standard template via Command: Open Standard Template Start a new score from a built-in template file Location: Main Menu ▶ File ▶ Open Internal Name: OpenTemplate called ChordSymbols.denemo which is a sample: it redefines a C9 chord as Cadd9 very cryptic unfortunately, but you can see the LilyPond syntax being invoked and the Open and Close parens work (using either the earlier LilyPond version or the latest Denemo version).
