Follow-up Comment #17, bug #67508 (group denemo): I've just checked and I see that I am currently linking Denemo against
libxml2:amd64 2.9.14+dfsg-1.3~deb12u1
and it is saving and reloading files just fine, except that it ignores the
request to compress on save (it opens compressed files just fine).
The guy that set up the testing wanted uncompressed files (I guess to be able
to do a diff) and introduced the change you tracked down to May 2014. So, to
restore compression on save I've detected (crudely) when Denemo is running
tests and used his code but otherwise reverted it so that xmlSaveFormatFile ()
is used.
I'm not *too* sure, but I think what this bug is saying is that the tests will
fail when Debian moves on to libxml2 version 2.14.x. due to a call to
xmlSaveToFilename(). There appears to be no documentation from Gnome
describing how this or any other function in libxml2 should be used, so if
this happens we will just have to hope there is someone around who can fix it.
