national character datatypes

Hi IBM folks,

Sometime after Cloudscape 3.5, the national character datatypes (NCHAR, 
NVARCHAR, NCLOB) were disabled. The disabling comments in the grammar 
indicate that there was some kind of incompatiblity with the SQL 
standard. Does anyone remember what the incompatibility was? I have 
logged an enhancement request (533) for re-enabling these datatypes as 
part of jdbc4.0 support. I'd like to understand the issues.
