I think we are converging on deciding on a color for our shed:

Code Conventions for the Java Programming Language <http://java.sun.com/docs/codeconv/html/CodeConvTOC.doc.html> as published by Sun [1] with four space indent (no tabs)

Included in this convention is the 80 character line limit and implicit in our participation at a Apache is the lack of @author tags, but I think these items should be included in the final wording. This approach feels generally OK to me because this is the standard indicated in the db project guidelines, and it is the base for the Geronimo and Jakarta standards. My only concern is that Dan said there was an inherent quality risk in the Sun standard and I am not willing to introduce a known quality risk without understanding it. I think we can surely mitigate whatever it is with cautionary wording or slight amendment, but need to have all the data on the table. Aesthetic opinions should be avoided to prevent a bikeshed discussion, quality data points should not.

Dan, what is your quality concern with the Sun convention and how might we best mitigate it?
