The pdf builds fine with your patch (and I committed it, revision 448772).
Are the fop.jar, avalon-framework-cvs-20020806.jar, and batik.jar files
in DOC_ROOT/trunk/lib/ in your CLASSPATH? The pdf won't get output
unless they are, so that could be one possibility.
