Regarding "1. setNull(LONGVARCHAR) on parameter of type CHAR FOR BIT DATA (Types.BINARY): Client succeeds, embedded fails (state 22005).", I found derbynet/csPrepStmt.java have problem. The part of setNull in this test tries to setNull(LONGVARCHAR) on 13th column typed as char(23) for bit data.
