The strange newline handling in the formatting of the stop and start position
values is definitely
present in other places, such as the RUNTIMESTATISTICS displays. I believe it's
part of some
low-level shared code which constructs string versions of the underlying
qualifier objects.
I think it would be nice to fix, but it's definitely present prior to this
patch.
