Kathey Marsden created DERBY-5870:
-------------------------------------
Summary: Change the drda package from tab indentation to spaces
Key: DERBY-5870
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DERBY-5870
Project: Derby
Issue Type: Improvement
Components: Network Server
Reporter: Kathey Marsden
As a side discussion to DERBY-436 a drda cleanup issue, we discussed changing
the drda package from using tab indentation to spaces. svn diff, svn merge,
and svn annotate now provide a -x -b option to ignore whitespace. This should
mitigate any back-porting issues.
The tab/space issue is an ongoing irritation, especially for new developers and
developers working in the network code, toggling between all spaces in the
client to the tab indentation in the drda package.

(I'd probably be in favour of making this change even if the problems with
merging and annotation weren't solved, though. Backporting may be a little
painful in the beginning, but the old branches will become less relevant and
backporting to them will happen less frequently as time passes. The sooner we
do it, the sooner the pain will go away.
Perhaps if DRDA goes well, we should do the whole trunk.
