Have you looked at SQuirreL? This is a third-party open source GUI that works quite well with Derby. See http://squirrel-sql.sourceforge.net/

hi Stanley

thanks for your words

and thanks to everybody that is helping me
to migrate to the ''derby world'' really THANKS TO EVERY BODY

that articles are interesting
i'm loading now the url that you give me, the network is having problems
with the registration but i suppose that is and interesting article like others that the wonderful people of derby send me the principal problem is that i'm a windows users, and i'm 'acostumbrado' to windows tools i mean ALL VISUALLY using the mouse
the right click on the gui and then create database , then create table
create fields, stablish the types and more
making the relation between tables and more visually
that is the problem , windows style thad transformed me in a vague db model designer ;-)

and derby is killing me by that , is all maked with the keyboard typing all
that really for me in this moment is not necesary
i'm adapted to windows form (borland too :-p )
really is a safe practice do everything to hand (writing all)
but the graphical way is a bit interesting :-p (for me less work)
and that is what i need , focus my work in other things
my sector require that (goverment directly) and with critical methodoligies
really i'm adapted to this way maibe is no the best , but i can't shutdown all the team and less the projects :-s

    Hi Yeradis -
From the number of responses you have gotten I'd say the people on
    this
list are your best bet for getting 'Derby for Dummies' type
information. I wrote a pretty basic article introducing Derby last year
    - it is available on-line at:
http://www.linux-mag.com/content/view/2134/ -- let me know if this is
    helpful.
You need to register to view the article but there were no fees the last
    time I looked.

Also, as Rajesh mentioned, take a look at the preliminary drafts of
    Ch 1
and Ch 2 of Working With Derby [WWD] - it is intended to get people
using Derby as quickly as possible. It can be downloaded with this
    URL:

http://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12323814/workingwithderby0306.pdf

Please let me know how these sections could be made more helpful. WWD
is still a work in progress and I would greatly appreciate you sharing
your opinions with me. NOTE: The examples in WWD use syntax that is
currently only available in the Derby development trunk (syntax added
for version 10.2). Most the syntax should be supported in the *Version
10.2 alpha snapshot. *Let me know if you need help converting this to
    version 10.1 syntax.

Lastly, I am very interested in know more about your comment: "
    derby is killing me :-p ; "
The 'killing me' experience is exactly what I want to help avoid with
    the WWD document.
