There is also another thing we should consider here: the amount of work
required for developers to implement the changes we are proposing. I
would say that creating another set of icons is more feasible in the
short run while an overall change of the GUI is a long term objective.
But long story short: I would suggest to create a mock-up with the icons
changed and after that to make more proposals with a different approach
for GUI.
Mirek just got ahead of me we few minutes by providing a link to the

(it's not a direct answer to you Emir, but to the whole thread)
I would like to share some few reflexions about this subject :
- the "flat/monochrome icons" subject is more about *usability* than
just aesthetic ; IMHO, it's a waste of time to just want to change icons
without a UI evolution.
Here is a complement to avoid misinterpretation (my sentence was too
short/compact) :
I'm not against changes. I really expect them for LO !
But we must make every UI change with usability first in mind.
If we change icon set just to be able to say "we have new icons !",
we'll just disturb existing users.
There was some recent studies about icon. They can be used to provide
and evolution of current icon set. And why not, to show/hide the most
used one.
Let's do user-testing on prototypes to be sure that any change will
improve usability.
