As a corollary, this implies that specific items
within a user defined cactus tree filing system for
Chandler may include both Memo items as well as Writer
documents. In practice, users may capture their
thoughts within a portion of their cactus tree
containing mostly Memo’s and then later, elaborate on
some of them as needed by converting them into Writer
docs and then dragging the doc to where it should
belong within the tree.

Additionally, users may eventually be allowed to also
convert important web pages into Writer compatible XML
documents and save these as well in their own defined
cactus system. This type of integration of a PIM with
a browser and a word processor would tend to allow for
following functions:

1) The use of the PIM not just for managing the IN box
and OUT box daily routines but also for capturing
important data encountered during the course of daily
routines and filing them according to their own
classification needs.

2) Users could then manage both paper based documents
& letters as well as web documents within the same
cactus filing system according to the data content and
not have to worry about placing important web files in
one app and memos in another app and word processor
docs in yet another app.

3) This sets the stage for further future integration
possibilities.

For example, in addition to dragging a Memo onto the
Writer button to reopen the memo as a new Writer
document, one might also be allowed drag a Memo title
bar onto the Email app button in the launch bar so
that the memo is then automatically reopened as a new
email composition window. Similarly, dragging a
Writer document onto the Email app button may then
automatically reopen the document's text into a new
email compose window with rich text attributes
stripped.

We had also previously discussed the possibility of
adding a photo album application to keep track of
photos sent as email attachments, photos from web
sites, and from digital cameras. Adding a conduit for
OOo’s Writer to access Chandler’s repository then
allows for potential integration of a photo album app
where photos received, say as attachments to emails,
could then be dragged out of the photo album and
positioned onto a Writer document with the text then
automatically wrapping around the embedded picture.
