This is a keen concept -- perhaps an action should have a 'hazard' score
with contributing elements such as:
* inflammatory language
* number of recipients
* briefness of time between receipt and reply
* number of nested indents, size of attachments
* committment to an overlapping time
* lack of an attachment when the word "attach*" is in the message
and instead of a confirmation, some well-highlighted status bar message
says,
"Your message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] is queued for sending in 10
minutes because of inflammatory language. You may cancel it by clicking
here."
"Your message to 3423 recipients is queued for sending in 6 hours because of
volume. You may cancel it by clicking here."
"Your message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] is queued for sending in
1 minute because there were no attachments..."
"Your message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] is queued for sending in 5 minutes
because it commits you to an overlapping meeting..."
Not only would this stop you from flaming your coworker, accidentally
sending a personal message to the whole company, but it might actually
prevent malware spread.
This is such a neat idea that I may finally have the impetus to write a
Thunderbird extension.

However, there are instances where users complain the lack of a
confirmation dialog. (ie. when using mass mailers to send out thousands of
emails at the click of a single button.) In such cases, users actually
want even more onerous workflow roadblocks than just an Okay, Cancel. They
want a timed confirmation dialog that gives them 10 seconds to hit cancel
even after they've selected Okay.
