Hi Folks,

When I switched to a wide aspect ratio monitor a few years ago, I
started using Thunderbird's 3 column panel. At first it was really hard
to get used to, but after a few weeks I got used to it, and now I
strongly prefer it to the other layouts I've tried. Come to think of
it, the point at which 3 column mode became usable for me was when I
figured out "b" and "f" move you backwards and forwards while keeping
focus in the message pane, so I can mostly avoid the mouse when reading
email. I wish those keystrokes had been more discoverable within the app...

The layout Alec uses was my second choice, but having all that empty
white space to the right of the message text bugged me.

Admittedly, it's nearly impossible to read HTML email in 3-column mode,
but I think of that as being the email author's problem. If people have
to send me HTML mail (mostly, I just wish they wouldn't, but that's a
different topic), I'd like to see the world move towards optimizing HTML
mail to a 400 pixel message pane.

Sincerely,
Jeffrey
