Public bug report changed:

Comment:
I don't know whether to submit this under the same bug or a new one, but
I have the same problem with assigning shortcuts to Rhythmbox. I'm
using Breezy i386 on an Acer 2300. Same thing: I tried assigning
<Ctrl><Alt>a to something and the a became unusable, and "a" is now
mapped to something like 0x5f (some hexidecimal value).

But the difference in my case is that while I can regain the "a" key
through resetting defaults in the "keyboard" dialogue, when I restart X
the key is gone again, so every time I start X I have to reset my
keyboard defaults and reconfigure my international settings.

I still haven't found a solution and have posted the problem to the
forum.
