Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution
This is a serious limitation in upstream Evolution - when migrating my homedir from a laptop to another, or using a shared homedir over the network on different workstations. This seems to be caused by Evolution's use of gconf for storage. To repro: - as root, create users user_a and user_b - login as user_a, open evo, create a profile, add some calendar entries, addressbook entries, configure an email server, fetch some emails - logout - as root, copy ~user_a/.evolution to ~user_b/.evolution - as root, chown -R user_b.user_b ~user_b/.evolution - login as user_b - open evolution = Expected: pop/imap settings copied over, calendar entries, etc. There is a hackish procedure reported here http://marc.info/?l=evolution&m=110880893342173&w=2 For bonus points, make user_a and user_b on separate computers with different endian-ness (ppc?). According to this thread http://marc.info/?l=evolution&m=110880893442208&w=2 the addressbook binary format is not portable. ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Evolution cannot migrate user data to new machine https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/132090 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
