The avscan program comes from Ubuntu universe repositories... Anyway, now I've seen it happens *whenever* I 1) open a shell window, 2) launch a program from it and then 3) close the shell window (causing the program to end as well). I tried with gedit, glchess and other programs: always when I close the parent shell window, the system monitor still lists the "ghost" child processes.
