I have also a similar problem. In past Gutsy beta releases all fonts were huge, but in the daily release of 2007-09-22 only some window fonts have this problem, as can be seen in the attached image. This problem disappears if I switch off graphics desktop effects, and it won't reappear even if I switch on them again. However, in the welcome screen this huge fonts problem is always present.
In addition, in past beta releases the screen resolution of my laptop was correctly detected as 1280x800, but this time the default resolution was 1024x768.
