Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

In the quest of being a desktop for human beings, with a human-friendly
interface:

What is PCM? Does any regular user know? Does it make sense that the
volume applet displays PCM: 100% when hovering over it, or that PCM is
the main control to adjust in the mixer? Google search for PCM leads to
technical explanations on Pulse-code modulation which is very unhelpful.

Is the PCM control meant to be a Master control? Could it be called
"Master" instead? Or could the applet display Volume: 100% instead
perhaps, for the master volume?

A small detail perhaps, but you don't see these kind of wordings in the
other mainstream OS:es and for good reason.

** Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
