I think the shutdown applet should be removed completely. It is not
something that people need immediate access to, so I do not think it
would be a terrible thing for new and old users alike to go through one
extra click to shutdown their machine. Also, with the two newly added
applets, fast-userswitcher and deskbar, there is much clutter on the top
pane. Because of this, I remove the shutdown applet (along w/ fas) after
every installation.
