Ubuntu 7.10

My CRT is set up for a screen resolution of 1280x1024. The login window
is displayed at the maximum supported resolution which appears distorted
(ie off-centre, does not fill entire screen). The resolution only
changes to the correct value after login. This is also problematic in
VMWare, where the window containing the virtual machine is bigger than
the host screen.

There should be a graphical way to set the resolution for the login
window. Also, the screen resolution selected initially should be
something sensible, like 1024x768, rather than the maximum resolution
available.

** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
