I get the same error, via: 1- gnome-panel freezes 2- kill gnome-panel with -9 3- gnome-panel restarts, and deskbar-applet crashes.
Sometimes the deskbar-applet crashes "on its own", asking the same question, if it should be reloaded. I removed it from the panel, and it stopped crashing.
