it attempts to play, but shows a corrupted display in the video window,
and cdrom0 in the playlist...

The progress bar doesn't go forward, and the corrupted display doesn't
change.. however, the application does not hang, you can still "Stop"
and open new file, or close, or whatever.

If you start up totem by the main Applications menu, and choose Play
Disc 'DISC NAME' from in totem... then play-list does not show cdrom0
(it shows a random VOB number like "2" or whatever), and the playback
starts normally.

This is with a commercial DVD.. I have also tried some other commerical
DVDs with similar results... the corrupted display might be slightly
different, or you may receive an error, but cdrom0 will show in the
playlist, and it doesn't work correctly as it does when you start it
from within totem.

I have attached a screen shot (with the DVD "Sayonara")
in the ss is what happens when you click Open Movie Player
