Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm
Installed XUbuntu 8.04 Alpha 6 from CD. After upgrade can't log to X Window, GDM login screen shows briefly but then dialog box pops up stating Greeter appears to be crashin ...,. Clicking OK only makes it do this repeatedly. Tried to change gdmgreeter to gdmlogin in files in directory /etc/gdm, no help. Googling for hints did not turn up usefull stuff, GtkModulesList=gail:atk-bridge:/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/modules/libdwellmouselistener:/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/modules/libkeymouselistener is already commented out [http://liltux.wordpress.com/2007/09/05/how-to-fix-the-error-the-greeter-application-appears-to-be-crashing-in-ubuntu/] Can't right now provide more exact info, I can no longer log in even from text mode console.
