Oh yes, and as more than one person has noted, VNC performance is
incredibly poor on hardy. In fact, in my case, it's so poor that gnome-
settings-daemon takes long enough to start up that the first thing to
appear is a grey blank window that later (in a minute or so) paints to
reveal an error that gnome-settings-daemon failed to start (or, more
likely, just timed out, since it's running when the desktop appears and
killing it to force it to restart gets it working again). It takes that
long for the GNOME panels and the background image to appear and for the
desktop to become responsive.
