Seb, I don't understand your first comment. As far as I can tell, Gedit does not have autocompletion, either for programming languages (lets call that 'code completion') or for words generally ('word completion'), I don't see any option or plugin to enable this, even with the gedit- plugins package installed.
There _are_ third party plugins for both features, but you currently have to download and install them manually. From this page http://live.gnome.org/Gedit/Plugins there is the "Document Words Completion" plugin and two "Word completion" plugins (all three do the same thing, from the descriptions), then there is the "Automatic code completion" and "Python code-completion" plugins which sound more like code completion for programming languages. I haven't tried any of these, some of them are not simple to install manually as they have dependencies. Assuming they work well, it would be great to see them packaged so they would be easy to install. In general, I think gedit needs an automatic way to find and install plugins, since quite a lot of features are implemented by plugins.
