I never set anything in /desktop/gnome/url-handlers manually, but indeed it
is set to this.

:~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/ftp$ cat %gconf.xml
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<gconf>
        <entry name="needs_terminal" mtime="1203349682" type="bool"
value="false">
        </entry>
        <entry name="enabled" mtime="1203349682" type="bool" value="true">
        </entry>
        <entry name="command" mtime="1203349682" type="string">
                <stringvalue>/usr/lib/firefox-3.0b3/firefox
&quot;%s&quot;</stringvalue>
        </entry>
</gconf>
