Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release: 8.04

apt-cache policy rhythmbox
0.11.5-0ubuntu8

What I expected to happen
I unchecked Enable software sound mixing (ESD) in the gnome Sound Preferences.
When I did this I expected rhythmbox box to play music just like before unless
another piece of software was using the soundcard or at least give a decent
error message.

What happened
Once ESD was unchecked, the first audio file may play correctly, but subsequent
clicks on the next song button made the entire application lag and appear to
lock up (Not repainting the window) for almost a minute. Many clicks on next
would basically make it crash. There was no error in a terminal when I ran
rhythmbox from the terminal, even when using debug output.

At least an error explaining the issue would be good. I have had ESD unchecked
for a very long time, and only by luck realized that checking it fixed the
problem.

** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
