I have the same problem then i try to uncheck some items from Application->Others (Прочие). This items was created by Wine after installing Rome Total War. (May by encoding problems?) Then i click on item, left panel become empty - view screenshot. And application menu dissapers. It helps: rm -f ~/.config/menus/applications.menu
