Booting with all_generic_ide=1 as a boot option does not change things. I inserted a blank CD-R into the Pioneer drive and while the green LED lights up all the time, I do not get any response about a blank medium found in the drive. Please see my report dated 25 Jul 08 at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/228624/comments/48 FYI, I have cut and pasted from dmesg what I think might be relevant, after inserting a blank CD: --- snip ---- [ 18.635185] ata2.00: ATAPI: LITEON DVD-ROM LTD-165H, CH0J, max UDMA/44 [ 18.635215] ata2.01: ATAPI: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110, 1.22, max UDMA/66 [ 18.635231] ata2.00: limited to UDMA/33 due to 40-wire cable [ 18.635234] ata2.01: limited to UDMA/33 due to 40-wire cable [ 18.706813] usb 2-1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 [ 18.798943] ata2.00: configured for UDMA/33 [ 18.888823] usb 2-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice [ 18.970810] ata2.01: configured for UDMA/33 --- snip ---- [ 18.972043] scsi 1:0:0:0: CD-ROM LITEON DVD-ROM LTD-165H CH0J PQ: 0 ANSI: 5 [ 18.978903] scsi 1:0:1:0: CD-ROM PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110 1.22 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5 --- snip ---- [ 19.001417] Driver 'sd' needs updating - please use bus_type methods --- snip ---- [ 19.001682] sda:<4>Driver 'sr' needs updating - please use bus_type methods --- snip ---- [ 19.153587] sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 48x/48x cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray [ 19.153592] Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20 [ 19.153640] sr 1:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0 [ 19.184639] sr1: scsi3-mmc drive: 40x/40x writer dvd-ram cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray [ 19.184718] sr 1:0:1:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr1 --- snip ---- > It may be a possible workaround for some at the moment. I have experience building from Ibex source package in prevu for applications, and running them, but never building a new kernel, let alone run it. If given a link on how to do it, I am willing to try, because I want to see the back of this bug. Many thanks for your attention.
