I have the same problem with a Mitsumi CR-ROM drive, model CRMC-FX4830T.
Rythmbox automatically starts on insertion of an audio CD, so even if I
wanted to use another player, the auto-ejection by Rythmbox prevents it.

The disk is being read initially, because I can see the list of song
titles.

I'm using Ubuntu Hardy Heron (8.04) and Rythmbox 0.11.5.

I've tried to dissociate Rythmbox from the CD multimedia in the
Preferred Applications applet, but so far no luck in mitigating this
effect.
