Hi Seb,

I have been thinking about what you said, and have been unable to find
anything that I recognise as errors. BUT, I got thinking about whether
there was a connection between some screen artifacts that I have (even
now as I type) that might be related. Some of the mouse over buttons
within evolution and J-pilot (haven't noticed the problem in any other
applications) have spots on them. When I mouse over, they disappear. My
computer has a weird graphics card (16MB ATI Radeon M6 LY) which
supports 3D in Windows, but I can't get working in Linux. I was looking
at the logs from x11 and found that it claimed the screen resolution of
1400 x 1050 (native for this laptop) and colour depth of 24 bit, could
not be supported (insufficient memory) so I dropped the colour depth
back to 16bit from 24. I have now been unable to lock up the system. I
have been opening and closing evolution, browsers, various apps and all
seems OK. However, the artifacts have not disappeared.

As I am not a developer, I can only assume that there has been some
critical change in the ATI driver between Breezy and Dapper which has
resulted in this problem. I am hoping that something can be done with
the ATI driver which can address this, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks for helping me work through this. Keep up the great work.

Cheers,

Adam
