I think it has a lot to do with pulse audio (it is not production
ready), I had the same problem on fedora. I  uninstalled pulse audio and
installed a load of alsa libraries (cant remember which ones).

Status in “rhythmbox” source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Today, after some updates, when I'm trying to listen to any song Rhythmbox
does not work. It does not crash, it just skip every song you're trying to
play. This is particularly strange, since yesterday it did work.

Architecture: x86_64
Uname: Linux callisto 2.6.27-5-generic #1 SMP Fri Oct 3 00:36:38 UTC 2008
x86_64 GNU/Linux
Version: 0.11.6svn20080916-0ubuntu1

If you need any additional info, please let me know
