Assuming that your desktop folder is ~/Desktop Copy a picture to your desktop and name it "icon.png" At the command line type: echo "[Desktop Entry] Name=Some name Type=Link Icon=$HOME/Desktop/icon.png URL=file://$HOME" > $HOME/Desktop/test.desktop
A new file should appear in your desktop with the picture you copied as its icon. Now, if you edit the picture or overwrite it, the file will not reflect the changes. That is no longer a problem for the avatar-factory music widget since I made some changes to it but it causes some other minor problems. The no name problem: gedit $HOME/Desktop/test.desktop Replace the second line: Name=Some name with: Name= Instead of showing nothing as in previous version it shows the full path. * Could you try on hardy or intrepid? The bug is still there on hardy. I didn't try it on intrepid.
