Same here, with Ubuntu Hardy Heron. Did not solve with the upgrade to Intrepid Ibex.
The contacts that are shown seems random. Those that don't appear are coming up when I edit their information, and disappear again after the next reload. Most of my contacts have a birthday after 1/1/70. I'm still searching for a link between those that appear, or those that don't appear, to try to understand what causes this, but it really seems random. Note : I'm using SynCE synchronization tools to have contacts and calendar synchronized with my mobile.
