I can confirm this problem... is annoying when you're working in a full screen vnc session and want to send Alt+F4 to the guest. If somehow the focus is still on the vinagre window, vinagre closes and saves this fullscreen settings. When I start vinagre then, its always fullscreen with this light grey as described above...
