i think it has something to do with the write permissions in the folder used as 
temp for the conversion of mp3s.
after having copied the album (mp3) i was trying to burn to my home folder, 
brasero didn't repeat that behaviour.

the burning originally failed; at that point the files i was trying to
burn belonged to another user and i had no write permission in the
folder they were in.

the other issue with displaying no space on disk in the main window is
another problem, that maybe should be addressed in an extra bug
report...

what's clear, is that the error messages in these 2 bugs have to become
more distinct, if one should ever be able to ascertain what's actually
wrong while trying to burn a cd with brasero
