I did it too, but it was quite problematic: ekiga depends also on libpt- plugins-alsa and the corresponding version of libpt-plugins-alsa depends on newer version of libasound (1.0.18) than the one currently available in intrepid repositories. After I upgraded it most applications were unable to play any sound. Updating pulse to verision (also not available for intrepid) solved this problem.
