I'm reopening this bug because the process outline by Chris Coulson did
not result in a crash report in '/var/crash' when the Rhythmbox
application crashed. I appreciate that this makes the problem much
harder to investigate, but I really can't proceed along the lines you
recommend if it crashes without creating a file. My
'/etc/default/apport' file looks like this:

    # set this to 0 to disable apport, or to 1 to enable it
    enabled=1

    # set maximum core dump file size (default: 209715200 bytes == 200 MB)
    maxsize=536870912

I rebooted and created a Rhythmbox crash. And I got nothing in
'/var/crash'. Perhaps I'm being unusually dense. I tried to run
'/usr/share/apport/apport-gtk' without any arguments, but that didn't
really seem to do anything.

If it makes any difference, I'm running Xubuntu (Xfce desktop).

When I say that Rhythmbox "crashes," I only mean that the program
crashes, not my entire system. Did I create a misunderstanding by using
the word "crash"???
