** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Using Ubuntu 8.10 (up to date).

I've downloaded the UbuntuStudio sounds package and set it in Gnome
sound preferences (selected as sound theme; my problem appears too if I
select custom sounds and manually choose each sound file per action).

- When powering my PC on and first logging in, the original Ubuntu login
- music is played instead of the one I've selected. If I log out and log
- in back, the correct chosen music is played. No problems either with
- subsequent logins : it happens only at the first login of the day.
+ When booting the PC, the original Ubuntu login music is played instead
+ of the one I've selected. If I log out and log in back, the correct
+ chosen music is played. But if I reset my computer, the problem
+ reappears again at next boot. The correct music is played only when I
+ log out / relog in.

It seems like Gnome won't use the sound preferences the first time it
  loads.
+
+ (I've updated the description to add that the problems happens also when
+ reseting the PC: I wrongly thought the problem appeared only at first
+ boot.)
