Public bug reported:

I often remove my laptop battery when on AC power in an attempt to prolong its
life. My power applet's settings is set to show when charging or discharging.
When I remove the battery while it's running on AC it still shows as if
charging. However, when I click on the applet, it doesn't show the battery info
menu item.
When I change the settings to "show when battery present", nothing changes.

Ubuntu 8.10 on Dell Inspiron 1525.

** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
