Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

If I suspend and resume my machine while the gnome-screensaver was
active (i.e. it has locked and blacked the screen and suspend was
initiated through the Keyboard, i.e. Fn+F4 on my Thinkpad), the machine
is unusable: After entering my password, I am presented an empty
desktop, with only my background image visible. There was no single
widget visible, the mouse was moveable though.

Suspend and resume works perfectly if I suspend w/o the g-ss active
(i.e. the screen is normally accessible and neither locked nor blacked).

I couldn't switch to a virtual terminal but I could SSH into my machine.
I tried a "gnome-screensaver-command --exit" and it didn't return.
strace revealed, that a read() blocked. It tried to read on fd 3 which
is a HAL socket. I don't remeber the name though.

I had to reboot my machine in order to use it again, as I wasn't able to
recover the widgets.

I consider this a bug with a high severity as I potentially lose my
unsaved data.
