Another backtrace which might be of interest: I discovered that rhythmbox freezes when just typing a single letter in the music search bar. But after a while (1 minute or longer) rhythmbox comes back to live. I did the follwing: start rhythmbox with gdb, caused the hanging as above, waited until rhythmbox came back to live, ctrl+c to stop rhytmbox, then backtrace.
