So I was finally able to reproduce this, by modifing the subscription
file on the server (dovecot).

Simply put a blank line at the end of the subcription file and
evolution will get confused (displaying multiple 'strange' folders).

if you happen to either: move something into the folder, or attempt to
delete the folder (i.e. use the client to fix up a subscription
problem) then evolution crashes in this way.
