Hi Setfan, I don't know if anybody's told you this, so I comment here:

Probably, you have enabled the option System -> Preferences -> Mouse ->
Locate Pointer -> Show position of pointer when the Control key is
pressed.  If you turn that off, then probably Ctrl-Alt-L will work
again.  Your bug is now marked as a duplicate of Bug #9441, and there is
some more information there.

If what I said about the Locate Pointer option is WRONG in your case,
then you should come back here and leave a comment here explaining that
this did not fix your problem.  Good luck!
