Hi srimalj, I think this bug is a duplicate. Many video flickering bugs have been reported concerning ATI graphics cards on Ubuntu 8.10.
As I am too tired to search for them on launchpad right now, the solution was to add: Option "AccelMethod" "EXA" to the device section in your xorg.conf. If you don't have a Device section, the following should do: Section "Device" Identifier "Default Device" Option "AccelMethod" "EXA" EndSection Then, reboot the whole computer (a simple logoff-logon doesn't do the trick). As a workaround if that solution doesn't work, add a Option "TexturedVideo" "off" to the same device section. The EXA acceleration method is the default one for ubuntu 9.04 with ATI cards. Could you please test the first solution above and tell us whether it has changed anything. This could help (although they won't probably have time to fix this before April 23). Good luck!
