$fc-match "Bitstream Vera Sans 11" DejaVuSans.ttf: "DejaVu Sans" "Book"
I don't know exactly when it started, but a couple of months ago, maybe 2 or 3, and it has been correct every now and then. It might be my locale, I think I'm using utf-8, but I've forgotten how I set all that up.
